What is Electricity Safety Week?

Electricity Safety Week raises awareness of the hazards associated with electricity and teaches students how to be safe around electricity. The resources have been developed in collaboration with the Department of Education to meet the Science and Technology and PDHPE curriculum requirements for years K to 6.

The resources include an Electricity and Safety Unit Lesson Book for Stage 3 with STEM design challenge, Electricity Safety Lesson Book for K-6 and four interactive whiteboard lessons featuring activities, videos and teachers’ notes that will engage your students in learning about electricity and how to be safe around it.

Below are activities students can participate in to learn more about electricity and electrical safety.

  • Activity 1: Learn about our Key Safety Messages

    Let’s get coding

In 2023 we released an exciting new resource - a Scratch Coding Project.

Year 3 students and above can participate in the Scratch Coding Project for Electricity Safety Week. This project has been developed in collaboration with Code Club Australia and is powered by the Telstra Foundation.

    What is scratch programming?

Scratch Programming is a block-based visual coding language used to teach coding to primary-aged students in a simple, fun way.

Create interactive games on electricity safety

Our scratch project is aligned to the Digital Technologies curriculum. It is designed to be delivered in a 45-minute lesson and will help students create an interactive game on electricity safety.

Teachers can use the step-by-step lesson guide with key curriculum outcomes and a starter project already developed in Scratch. See below for resources:

    Cables and Ladders Game

Download and print out our Cables and Ladders game, grab some dice and have some fun with friends and family playing this game at home or school.

    Electricity Safety Virtual Incursion

In collaboration with the NSW Department of Education's DART Learning platform, we have produced a 20 minute virtual incursion for NSW primary schools featuring female professionals who share their experiences working in the energy industry.

Take a look at some of the electrical equipment we see in our neighbourhood and check out what an elevated work platform does! We also have a panel discussion about roles in the industry and electricity safety.
