Concession holders missing out on electricity rebates

22 December 2023

With many people facing increasing cost-of-living pressures, Essential Energy is encouraging customers to check to see if they are receiving all of their energy concessions.

The pre-Christmas call out is all part of the Energy Charter’s Keep the Money, It’s Yours campaign which aims to support customers and communities access the energy concessions they are entitled to.

Ian Armstrong from Essential Energy knows that many people are doing it tough at the moment, but the good news is that there may be a way to save some money on electricity bills right now.

“Around 60 percent of people who are eligible for ongoing concessions are not taking them up and a lot of the time it’s because they don’t know how to access them,” Ian says.

“With the festive season on our doorstep, we want to make sure our customers don’t miss out on support from the government to help reduce their energy bills.”

If you, or someone you know, have a Commonwealth concession card such as a Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card, Centrelink HealthCare Card or Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card, reach out to your local Service NSW centre or your energy retailer to find out more.

The Keep the Money, It’s Yours campaign is co-ordinated by the Energy Charter, and proudly funded and enabled by its Signatories: Australian Gas Infrastructure Group, Aurora Energy, Ausgrid, CS Energy, Energy Australia, Endeavour Energy, Essential Energy, Jacana Energy, Jemena, Powerlink Queensland and TasNetworks. This campaign has been developed in collaboration with community groups and a range of advisors from all states and territories.
