Terms & Conditions Request for Safety Advice – Working Near Overhead Power Lines

  • The supply authority will contact the applicant to advise of a date/time to meet at the nominated site to provide relevant safety advice
  • Where work will encroach in the unsafe distance of the overhead power lines, the Principal Contractor and/or his representative must ensure that the appropriate exclusion zones are maintained until written safety advice is received from the relevant supply authority
  • The written safety advice shall be issued to the nominated responsible person by a representative of the relevant supply authority
  • Charges may apply for the installation of aerial markers, de-energisation or relocation of overhead power lines or the provision of an approved Safety Observer (if required) to carry out the work near overhead power lines.

For worksites within NSW, I have obtained a copy of the NSW Code of practice 2006 “Work near overhead power lines” or for worksites within QLD, the Electrical Safe Code of practice 2020 “Working near overhead and underground electric lines”, along with other relevant state and national codes and guidance material and acknowledge that I am required to maintain an exclusion zone around the overhead electric lines until such time as I receive written safety advice from the relevant supply authority.

For a timely response it is advised you provide any or combination of the following (if applicable):

  • Relevant training and/or licensing is held by all personnel including:
    • High Risk Work (HRW) License of crane operator, boom pump operator, dogman, scaffolding tickets, EWP/boom ticket, etc.
    • Evidence of completion for Safety Observers and Operators of the following course: UETDREL006 – Working Safely in the Vicinity of Live Electrical Apparatus as a Non-Electrical Worker (or equivalent) 
    • Evidence of completion for Accredited Persons undertaking vegetation management of the following course: UETDRVC007 – Control vegetation using pruning techniques
  • Confirmation that procedures are in place regarding:
    • Adequate protocol for observing and communication between plant operators and ground crews
    • Emergency procedures in place regarding contact with powerlines
    • Appropriate rescue, response and first aid measures available on site
