Distribution Connected Storage

Essential Energy is market testing battery storage solutions to expedite the infrastructure needed to support the balance of energy generation and usage within communities. With rooftop solar generation increasing across the electricity grid, we need to capture and store the excess energy so it can be used to support the network when it is needed. Energy storage is key to managing the power system as more localised generation comes into the grid, and we need more of it at all levels – from network-scale large systems to pole-mounted neighbourhood systems.

We are seeking interest from potential partners who can support the expansion of the installed capacity of battery energy storage systems (BESS) connected across our distribution network.

At this stage, the call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) is for parties interested in being awarded a development licence to develop, deliver and operate BESS on land which Essential Energy owns, immediately adjacent our assets in key locations across the state.

We are looking for the right partners who have a track record of delivery, an appetite to accelerate the deployment of BESS and importantly, who understand the communities in regional, rural and remote New South Wales where we operate.

Register Your Interest to participate in the EOI

Those wishing to receive the EOI documentation are required to pre-qualify by providing supporting evidence (such as company announcements, news articles, etc) that your organisation or consortium has developed, delivered, funded or operated a grid scale battery energy storage system in the last 2-3 years.

To pre-qualify please send your request, along with evidence to support your pre-qualification assessment, to the Essential Energy project inbox at [email protected].

We will contact all parties following our pre-qualification check to advise of next steps.

Call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) key dates:

  • 17 March 2025: EOI documentation sent to registered applicants
  • 7 April 2025 (11am): Deadline for receipt of EOI responses.
