FAQs

What should I do when my power goes out?

First, check whether the outage is listed on our Outage Tracker.

Do not approach your meter box or switchboard during a storm or lightning, if the power is flickering, unusually dim or unstable, if anyone has received an electric shock, or if you notice sparks, buzzing, smoke, burning smells, blackening or damage.

Stay well clear, call 000 if there is immediate danger and contact us immediately to report the issue. If there are no warning signs and it is safe to do so, check your switchboard for a tripped circuit breaker or safety switch. Do not attempt to reset rewireable fuses. Solar systems require a specific shutdown procedure, so do not attempt to turn yours off unless directed by a qualified person.

If the outage is not listed and the issue does not appear to be inside your property, report the outage to us so our crews can investigate.

Why is my neighbour's power back on but mine isn't?

Our electricity network is designed in such a way that properties in the same street are often supplied by different electricity cables. This means that the electricity line that supplies your property could be faulty, but the line that supplies your neighbours property is fine.

How can I get SMS or email updates?

To receive planned power outage notifications via SMS from us please ensure your mobile number is registered with your electricity retailer.

Your retailer contact number will be on your latest electricity bill.

I use life support or medical equipment. What should I do?

If you rely on powered medical or life support equipment, make sure you are registered and have a backup plan in place. Talk to your healthcare provider or equipment supplier about battery backup, alternate charging options and what to do during an extended outage. If the outage creates a medical emergency, call 000 immediately. Find out more

Why is the estimated restoration time unknown or changing?
Restoration times are estimates only. During storms or major events, crews first need to make sites safe, inspect damage and identify the faults affecting the largest number of customers. As conditions on the ground change, the estimated time may move or show as unknown until we have a clearer picture.

Please note: All times are in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).
