Media Statement - Port Macquarie Safety Incident and Power Outage

Essential Energy responded to an unplanned power outage this morning at 5.50am, affecting 2050 customers in the North Shore, Settlement City and Canal areas of Port Macquarie.

The fault was located and as crews attempted to switch power around the network to restore supply, a serious incident occurred injuring two Essential Energy employees.

Emergency services attended the scene. The two Essential Energy crew members were transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital in a serious but stable condition. We have been in touch with the employees families and will be supporting them, and the employees colleagues through this period.

Essential Energy turned the power off to a further 900 customers to ensure the safety of the public. Areas affected include Gordon Street through to Waugh Street.

Power will be restored to customers by mid morning.

Essential Energy is assisting emergency services and WorkCover with their investigations.
