Scholarship a pinnacle step towards diversity and inclusion

05 March 2025

“It feels like a hand has been extended to lift me – a reminder that I am part of a community that believes in me and my potential,” says Moss Cluney, the recipient of a scholarship recognising an outstanding commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and technology.

Essential Energy’s partnership with The Pinnacle Foundation is providing the scholarship for Moss to make a difference in their final year of a Bachelor of Information Technology at Southern Cross University. Moss also plans to pursue a Masters in Human Rights in 2026.

Moss says the scholarship provides a transformative step towards LGBTQIA+ advocacy, building on their recent role as the Pacific Youth Representative to the Climate Centre of the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC), where they provided an LGBTQIA+ perspective on climate issues.

“Receiving the scholarship is a deeply affirming gesture that acknowledges both my identity and the path I am walking as an LGBTQIA+ person who is committed to making a difference,” Moss says.

“This support motivates me to reach even further, aiming to contribute meaningfully to the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond. I am grateful for this opportunity and inspired to honour it by making a lasting impact in my field and helping create a more inclusive, equitable world."

Essential Energy’s LGBTQIA+ Inclusion & Diversity Reference Group Stream Lead, Josh Mitchell says the organisation’s support of The Pinnacle Foundation celebrates authenticity and empowers young people to thrive.

“Moss’s diverse background and passion for mental health, human rights, information technology and climate change make them an ideal recipient of the scholarship," Josh says.

“Their dedication to creating inclusive and equitable spaces aligns perfectly with our values. We believe in Moss's potential to significantly impact their field and beyond."

The Pinnacle Foundation’s scholarship program is an ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace, encouraging employees from all backgrounds to thrive and contribute to a supportive community.

Moss says the support is palpable.

"I am incredibly thankful to Essential Energy for this scholarship, which is much more than just financial support. Knowing that there is a community backing me in my studies and future endeavours means the world to me."
