Community organisations in regional, rural and remote areas of NSW looking to spark change will soon be able to apply for grants that contribute to a positive environmental and sustainable future.
Is your community organisation considering electrifying community buildings or looking into solar panels and battery storage options? Or maybe there is interest in water and waste reduction initiatives, beekeeping, tree planting or community gardens that contribute to a brighter, greener future. If so, Essential Energy’s newly revamped Essential Grants program, formerly Community Choices, may help jumpstart your project.
The Essential Grants program is looking to empower communities within the Essential Energy network footprint by funding projects for amounts up to $15,000.
Since 2018, Essential Energy has contributed more than $1 million to 1560 community groups, through previous programs. From 2025, it is changing to a grant-based program that provides opportunities for community organisations to develop, educate or invest in projects that focus on the environment, education and resilience, and are related to the energy transition.
The Essential Grants program is looking to empower communities within the Essential Energy network.
Examples of projects may include:
- initiatives that support a circular economy and waste reduction, habitat restoration or community gardens
- funding contributions for solar panels or electrifying community buildings
- investment in STEM education in schools and community organisations
- the provision of resources that support communities affected by disaster events.
Community groups and service providers, registered charities, and other not-for-profit organisations in the Essential Energy footprint are eligible to apply.
Applications open on 3 February 2025 and close on 31 March 2025. Register now to receive updates.
