Cable Jointer Apprenticeship

Cable Jointers are responsible for installing and maintaining the underground cables and network equipment that deliver electricity to our customers.

Our Cable Jointer Apprenticeship is a four-year program, combining structured training with on-the-job experience.

As an apprentice, you will learn about laying, installing, jointing and maintaining underground power cables, as well as installing and maintaining pits, pillars, substations and other electrical equipment and civil activities directly related to the underground network.

Skills and qualifications you will obtain

You will have access to the latest training to ensure your skills and knowledge are at the forefront of the industry, completing a Certificate III Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) Distribution Cable Jointing, comprising subjects for: Work, Health and Safety; Power System Components; Power Distribution; and electrical drawing interpretation – providing a strong foundation to power your career.

You will work in a team of highly skilled and qualified Cable Jointers and Electricians who are passionate about working to keep the lights on in their local communities. You will gain valuable on-the-job training in the areas of plant safety practices, science and materials and underground network inspection.

Safety is one of our core values, so to ensure you are kept safe, you will be supervised in all aspects of your work and be mentored and taught safe work practices.

You will be trained and qualified in numerous SafeWork NSW High Risk Licences and other industry accredited operations, including: Elevated Work Platform Operations; Traffic Controlling; Forklift Operations; and Dogging.

Applying for an apprenticeship

Applications are now open for our 2023 Apprenticeship Program, and will remain open until 24 July. The program will commence in early 2023.

It is a preference that successful applicants hold a driver’s licence, as you are required to drive to training locations.
